So, I've been getting lots of replies asking me where I'm going exactly. I don't know the exact cities I'm going to, I probably won't know until about a week ahead of time. I only plan on spending a few days in each city depending on how much I like the place. I want to be in Australia by December 9th so I can try to find a job before Christmas. Christmas will be fun... hopefully I'll know somebody. So anyway, below is a list of countries and approximate dates that I plan on arriving there. It'll be cool to look back on this and see if I actually stick to this itinerary. My ticket is really awesome because I can change the dates around as much as I want to with no fees, depending on availability though.
Los Angeles (Visit Abbey) Oct.14
Taiwan (Visit Mike) Oct.16
Singapore Oct 22?
Malaysia Oct 25
Thailand Nov 6?
India Nov 13
Nepal Nov 27
Bangladesh??? (need a Visa that I haven't applied for yet, will try once in India)
Australia:
Adelaide (via Singapore) Dec 9 (Will settle in here and get a job)
travel slowly towards:
Sydney beginning of March (Jeremy will have just arrived around this time)
travel slowly towards:
Brisbane sometime in June
Head north to see the Great Barrier reef, etc for a couple weeks towards the end of July, need to be back in Brisbane to catch a flight to:
New Zealand Aug 15?
Bangkok (via Singapore) Sept 01
Vietnam???
Laos???
Cambodia???
Manilla Sept 17 (visit my Parents, see my heritage)
Seoul Oct 8
Calgary (via Vancouver) Oct 13 (good to be home!!!)
Its kinda nice to actually put that down in writing. I have it all in my head but nowhere concrete. Obviously its going to change a little but hopefully not by much. I just found this book at my work called Volunteer Vacations. There's this one that has conservation type work in Australia, it would be about 6 weeks long. I'm contemplating doing it, but I'm not too sure. It would be cool to do something like that and be around a bunch of strangers that will probably end up being close friends in the end. I don't know though, I have to do some more research on it. Running out of time though!
I think that if I'm going to do any kind of volunteer work, I'd rather do it helping out people, not planting trees, or pulling weeds, etc. In the long run I guess it helps people, but that's a long, long, long run. Anybody know any good organizations, preferably one where I don't have to pay very much to join it. Secondly, I don't want to join a missionary where I'll have to deal with very much religious beliefs and preaching. No offense, but I don't want to do that.
Anyway, I'm tired. Talk later.
Dean
